memory is a place
2025
This publication explores the non-linear nature of memory and remembering otherwise as an act of critical reframing. The work consists of a series of texts where memory and imagination merge reflecting impressions of growing up as a migrant in a new context. Revisiting these memories and building an imaginary of belonging is an exercise of reappropriating them as the foundation of my identity as well as bringing forward the conflicting nature of a search for home surrounded by absences. The written works are printed in the middle of a spread merging with each other as they are folded into a bind. The publication is designed with an open bind so that the pages can be taken apart and rearranged creating new texts, reflecting the fragmented and mutating nature of souvenirs. When the pages are taken apart the original writings can be read allowing the audience to grasp the underlaying narratives of the work.
